Interview: Background and Approach
Who I am and what makes me tick.
What prompted you to start a career in marketing contract compliance?
The media and advertising industries are hugely relevant and present, constantly evolving with best practices and new standards emerging. Media is all around us — from television adverts, to billboards, to social media posts, etc. This was extremely appealing to me, with a great opportunity to continue gaining knowledge and to continue adapting. I was looking to specialise in a specific industry, and this seemed an ideal fit. So far — I’m not wrong!
How has your previous experience helped you at Financial Progression?
My experience at Grant Thornton has helped me considerably. I gained sound understanding of accounting principles and standards, whilst providing me with the skills needed to understand data sets. I have developed skills that allow me to understand and target high risk areas within an audit, and to address these in a suitable manner. Through various experien ces with key stakeholders in various organisations, I have gained valuable communication techniques that allow for constructive conversations.
Which part of your work gives you the greatest sense of achievement?
The greatest sense of achievement for me is making a difference. I’m really motivated by knowing that I’ve made a positive contribution to an individual or business. It is great seeing that the work I have performed allows for real, tangible results for others.
How would people describe you?
Those closest to me would describe me as kind, understanding and funny. I love helping others and to make sure they’re feeling comfortable and okay. Former colleagues would describe me as resilient, organised and logical. I like to make sure there’s a good balance — getting stuff done efficiently but in a respectful way.
What motivates you to do what you do?
I love learning new skills and knowledge. Continuous development is a strong motivational factor for me — I have a real passion for this. Within this role, there is always room to learn more; whether gaining further insights into the industry, learning further data analytics techniques, or keeping up-to-date with accountancy and auditing standards and best practices. Never a dull moment!
What can you be found doing when you’re not at work?
Outside of work, I have a variety of hobbies. My family lives in Cornwall, so it’s great going to visit and spending time with them. Beach visits and coastal walks are a must! In Bristol, I love swimming and meditation — both of which I try and do on at least a weekly basis. At weekends, I enjoy going to concerts and trying out new restaurants and cocktail bars with friends.
